MONTEBELLO RECREATION CENTER

The 45,000 sf center was arranged to reference the axis already existing within the park structure. The center’s east/west axis was designed to intersect the future amphitheater located directly on the water’s edge. The north/south axis is based upon the intersection of 53rd and Chambers Road and sets the relation to other park offerings and field access.

An indoor pool opens to outside space that is part of future athletic fields and passive recreation spaces. The lobby is brightly lit by sand blasted glass which opens to a two-story space leading to the gymnasium, art and multipurpose spaces. Weight and cardio workout areas are located on the upper level overlooking the pool and lobby space. The center was designed with the concept of creating a strong association to the outside environment with views engaging the natural beauty surrounding it.

Project completed as Project Manager/Designer at Brendle APV.
